Hello! I'm Zahra, an online tutor for KS3 & GCSE English.

With 12 years private tutoring experience, a strong academic background and a lifelong passion for learning and improvement, I take a unique skills based approach to help my students from a student's perspective.

My Experience

My tutoring experience began from volunteering at various local tuition centres at a young age whilst studying at school. Whilst undertaking my studies I used this voluntary experience and my own study skills to help other students through private tutoring. Having successfully achieved a Distinction in my Undergraduate degree, I secured a Graduate Teaching Assistant role with my University, teaching on a Statistics based Sociology module in 2019.

Having achieved another Distinction in my postgraduate law conversion course, I have been working full-time as a Paralegal since 2020 whilst continuing with tutoring. During this time I gained experience as an Assistant Examiner and Moderator with Cambridge International Exams across 2 exam seasons which gave me valuable insight into what examiners are looking for, helping me become even more focused on exam technique in my own lessons.

In 2024, whilst continuing full time work as a paralegal and private English tuition lessons, I began studying part-time towards my solicitor qualification. Having now completed my postgraduate SQE course with BPP I am graduating with a Distinction, whilst having also passed the first half of my professional solicitor exams. This experience has reminded me of what it is like to be a student and what learners value when being taught: clear explanations, an organised approach to covering content and encouragement to becoming exam-ready through lessons which consistently highlight exam technique. This is what I aim to deliver.

My Approach

With a strong academic record coupled with professional experience, I have a life-long passion for learning and improvement, and thoroughly enjoy continuing to help students improve academically. I aim to help students from a student’s perspective, thereby providing a unique and relatable approach and teaching your child the exam technique and study skills that teachers in school don’t cover.

In my group lessons, my teaching is tailored to individual students’ needs on what skills, topics and specific feedback they require to improve. My approach is very focused on building your child's confidence in their academic abilities, and whilst teaching content and exam technique, also equipping your child with study skills that will assist them long into the future. Each lesson I aim to provide an engaging experience, build knowledge and skills, for example, note-taking skills, how to analyse an extract, study a text independently and how to critique your own work. I also provide tailored feedback to each student, as well as providing notes from the lesson and homework to help gaps I pick up in my students’ learning and development. So you can be assured learners are receiving personalised support and attention within a group setting.

I have experience tutoring a wide variety of ages and children ranging from Year 1 to GCSE over the last 12 years.

Now I specialise in:

- Teaching foundation knowledge and consolidating school topics covered for KS3 in order to prepare for GCSE level study

- GCSE teaching, exam technique and study skills for Year 9-11.
